Architect Day: Takao Shiotsuka Atelier Posted: 01 Jun 2010 04:30 AM PDT Takao Shiotsuka is part of a fascinating school of Japanese architecture, which impresses every project, every detail thought of, creating an architecture that is pure and simple, with a lot of culture and different sensations through each and every visited angle.<!--break--> Shiotsuka Takao was born in 1965 in Fukuoka Prefecture in Japan. In 1987 he graduated from the Department of Architectural Engineering through the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Oita. Continuing his studies, he completed his master's at the same university in 1989. He worked four years in Archaic Associates, and in 1994 founded his own office, Takao Shiotsuka Atelier. Since 2002, Takao is a professor at the University of Kyusyu in Oita.
Takao Shiotsuka won the GOOD DESIGN AWARD in 2001 and the International Design Competition, which included a panel of judges with none other than Jean Nouvel and Tadao Ando. Like any good Japanese architecture, Shiotsuka Takao Atelier's projects breathe the culture in every detail of design and construction of the works performed. The purity of the volumes, the details of light and shadow creating new sensations in every appearance and minimalist interiors, drawing attention to the smallest details of architecture, are all bright points in this fascinating Japanese school of architecture. Posted: 01 Jun 2010 04:21 AM PDT As we always say, it's a great pleasure for us to introduce new talented artists here for you. We really like to get to know the work of someone that is new to the audience and have the privilege to show it here to you first. And today this is the case... I will present to you the work and a small interview with a new artist that has some pretty nice stuff to show! Daniele Machado was born in 1986 in Sapucaia do Sul, RS, Brazil and today she lives in lives in São Leopoldo, RS, Brazil - a city near our home town Porto Alegre. She is currently studying Communication at Feevale and here she will show us some of her work and a bit more about herself.I got to know Daniela's work through an email she sent us showing the new design of her website. I visited the site and really liked her pieces and her style, so I got in touch with her and scheduled a coffee for us talk - this is the good stuff about having the artist near us, we get the chance to see them personally, which I think is great. :) As this was not exactly an interview, it was more like a chat, I will show the topics we talked about and some of her stylish pieces... so take your time and enjoy the article! The BeginningFrom an early age I was not an illustrator or a kid that would draw a lot, but since I was very small I can recall drawing my own clothes, I used to design the things I wanted to wear. I used to draw them and I was always surrounded by small pieces of fabric and clothes drawings. I started to study communication because I had the intention of working with Art Direction, but in the end I started to work with fashion, work with companied that develop the product (clothes). The great thing about this was to be able to work with something that I liked since I was a child. The illustration itself showed up slowly... I see my illustrations as my way to work with product design. InspirationIt's even complicated to talk about inspiration... I'm inspired by so many things that sometimes I can't even mention all of them. I also really like feminine stuff... things that are delicates and cute, the feminine universe. I believe that the delicate side of my work comes from this part of me... we always live between the limit of things, among the clean and the over. I also like photography and in my spare time I like to do some experiments with it. I simply love black and white photos... I think they capture some really special moments in a very particular way. TodayToday I work for a street line company during the day and I really like it because is the style I always admired. And during my spare time I have some freelance projects. And the nice thing is that the company that I work for understands and respects the works I do as a freelance. They understand how things works these days and they know me, they know I will take good care of each one of my clients. UniversityI really like to be studying communication... I'm not sure about what I will do after graduating, but I know I want to get into a masters degree program, I love to study. I have a quiet and settled personality, so I like to be in quiet studying and doing my things. I believe that there is nothing that we like and that we want to learn that we can't learn. The difference is the personality and the style of each person. Some people are self educated and can learn everything my themselves, other people need more interaction, need a teacher, a class and some colleagues. And the really good thing about classes is the network you can build inside of a classroom, the talks, the tips, etc. And the fact is that is doesn't matter the way we learn things, what matters is that we do it with passion, with all our heart and that we keep honest about it. FutureSince I was around 15 years old I dreamed about having my own brand, a brand where I could do everything the way I wanted to wear, the clothes I always wanted to have. Right now I don't have time for this cause I know a brand demands dedication and really hard work, so at this moment I can only imagine how this would be like... but I do thing about starting as an experiment, with a small amount of pieces just to check out the result of it. And if I get to start my brand, the idea is to do something small, something faithful to the style I always liked. I really admire individuality and I don't want to forget about that and go 'mass production'. And when the inspiration is gone?I listen to music... I'm moved by music. I love to listen to something I really like and to check out some magazines to see what is happening and what other people are doing... this always works for me. TipsEverything we can learn and improve is good for us. Get yourself a network, contact people you admire, show your work. Remembering to use services like Behance to show your work to other people and places, this is a good way to showcase your stuff. And for those who work with design, product or anything visual, get your own 'reference library' because you will need lots of images. Things are not easy, so you have to go for it, learn things you are not good at and keep innovating and improving your work. Don't forget to visit her website or her Behance profile for further info! |
Posted: 01 Jun 2010 03:02 AM PDT It's been a very long time since the last time we had a 3D works post so we just had to post something today. It's always nice to see that each year 3D pieces are getting more and more realistic. Thank God there's the awesome CGSocity.org for us to find these babies.<!--break--> I remember back in 2006 that it looked totally amateur compared to present technology and techniques. One good way to measure that is through video games! It's getting more realistic each year, and that just awes me. I guess that will come a time when we won't be able to tell whether an image is computer graphic or real life. "Is this real life?" Anyways, I hope you all enjoy these, and please, don't forget to check each artist's page by clicking the images. They'll appreciate it! Cheers. ;) |
