Create Colorful Composition in Photoshop Posted: 20 Jun 2010 10:16 PM PDT For some time, we hadn't a drawing tutorial, so here is new one. In this Photoshop drawing tutorial we will create a beautiful and colorful composition with circles. In this tutorial we will mostly use standard features of Photoshop, but I think you will learn some extra tricks using basic Photoshop tools. Mostly, we will use Layers styles and Pen tool. Just want to add that the technique you will learn in tutorial you'll be able to apply not only in creating balls, but for example the Christmas ornaments or any other abstract decors. So, let's start tutorial. Stocks Used:Final Image Preview1.Step - Background and CircleCreate a new document 1000px * 650px. The main figures in our work will be circles and curves. We begin with the creation circles and circles detailing. Using the tool Ellipse Tool (U) and create an ideal flat large circle. 2.Step - Blending Options of cirlceUse the Blending Options to set the style of our figure. Custom styles like this: Being in the section Gradient Overlay move the cursor with a gradient in the upper left edge. This will make our figure more beautifully. And next add Bevel and Emboss and Inner Glow parameters: Your result should be like this: At this stage we have finished setting the style! 3.Step - Processing of circleNext, we will work with Pen Tool (P). This is very important part of our work. So, select the Pen Tool, create a new layer above the others and put the icon on the Paths and adjust the point this way: Click the right button on the selection and press the Make selection. Fill selection with white color. Using the Eraser Tool, for erase sides as shown below. Use a soft brush at 50% opacity and set the opacity of this layer to 35%. In the same way we make a new section below, similarly: (Note I used only 2 points) After that, fill our section with white. For better quality we'll erase some parts, like this: (again we use for this soft eraser of 50% opacity.) Create another layer above others and create Pen Tool new section in the middle of our circle. Try to draw it symmetrically other sections. And fill this section in black. For a better effect edit parameters of layers like this: *For better quality we'll erase some parts on middle layer, like this: (again we use for this soft eraser of 50% opacity.) Create a new layer and add the final part, like this: Now select all layers of circle and press Ctrl + E to making a single layer. Now our circle is fully prepared and we can proceed to the next step! 4.Step - Circles and typeSo, now we have only 1 layer, our circle. Now we need to add text and multiply circles. It is very easy, just make a duplicate layer with the circle and change his hue. Start by creating a text. By the way you can experiment with colors. For the font I used "Microsoft Sans Serif" and I wrote the word "TYPO" (size: 120pt.). Also I made a bit smaller our circle to 72%. Next, make a duplicate layer of our circle and make circle to 72% of its size, press Ctrl + T to do that. Also change the color as shown below: Next, experiment, like this: For the blurring of circle I used the filter Gaussian Blur on 2.2 pixels: At the same: Now just add a little text "Magic" (Microsoft Sans Serif font / 40pt.) 5.Step - LinesSo now time for beautiful lines and a some little circles. Create a new layer, above the others and select the Pen Tool (icon on paths). To make a beautiful lines you need minimal skills of Pen tool and a little of imagination. So start drawing the first line! To make a full line pre-adjust the brush like: And click on the Stroke Path and next like: So, now we have: Rename this layer to "Line 1" In the same way, make 4 more lines beside with others lines. Important: make a new line on a new layer! As a result, you should get like: Now, the important part: you need to configure the style of each lines. Simply set the style for one line, then simply change the color for the other, for example, style for the layer "Line 1": And we got result like this: In the same way make the same styles for the remaining lines simply by changing the color. Result: Next, merge all layers (5 layers) with lines (select layers and press Ctrl + E). Select Eraser and erase unnecessary parts: I think now this lines looks nice. I also added a few small circles near the lines. 6.Step - FinishingNow is the time to decorate the work by leaves. To do this, I took a picture from Sxc. To separate the leaves from the background I used the following steps: Click on the Select -> Color Range. Click on a white color on the background (fuzziness = 165) -> Delete selection. For the better quality click on the Layer -> Matting -> Defringe (1 px). You should get: Now just drag it on our work, as you like (under the layers of circles and lines), I have cloned layer with leaves 3 times and changed their rotate. You should get like that: So, we are almost finished! Well, let's make a nice background! First you need to assign a background-layer style. Result: Take this photo from Sxc. Place it above the layer with the background and set the blend mode Lighter Color. As result we have: Select Brush and draw near our abstract such fill. Color of fill - 03e1de. Then apply the filter Blur -> Gaussian Blur (48 pixels). And set the opacity to 50%. As result we have: Next, create new layer above others: Layer -> New Adjustment Layer -> Levels: And finally, our work is done! I add some little details and we can see result: Final Result: Abstract compositionDownload Psd fileRelated posts: |
