Introducing David Gobber

Posted: 15 Jun 2010 03:57 PM PDT

Davod Gobber send in a submission to our design contest "The World Collabs" and added his flickr account. I found some really nice, clean designs on it. The use of fewer colors in his work give them a vintage retro effect i really like.

Architect Day: Archea Associati

Posted: 15 Jun 2010 05:07 AM PDT

A great Italian architecture firm; born in Florence and now with offices in more than five different cities. With major projects since the late 80s, they have presented works of high quality, various types and functions, but always with unique solutions.

Architects Laura Andreini, Marco Casamonti and Giovanni Polazzi were all born in Florence and trained at the School of Architecture of Florence. In 1988 they founded the Studio Arche based in their hometown. In 1999, architect Silvia Fabi also joined the office. In 2001 branches in Rome and Genoa were opened with the participation of Gianna Parisse and Massimiliano Giberti. Besides the main activities of the office which consist of research on design and implementation of architecture at various scales, members of the Arche Associati reconcile intensive occupations of teachers and researchers in several universities in Italy within the area of architectural design.

Memories Video Experiment with Harinezumi Toy Camera

Posted: 15 Jun 2010 03:10 AM PDT

Hi, Guys! I am back to show you this new video I made with a tiny little toy camera called Digital Harinezumi 1 (http://www.superheadz.com). This little piece of retro heaven can deliver 640 x 380 resolution images with an 8mm film like effect. I know the res isn't good and that's why I chose to make a multi-screen version to try to give it a boost in the old resolution. NO post production effects or image enhancements where used in this video.

Well, people, this was shot in a space of about 2 months. I simply captured everything I thought could give me a nice final compilation of images. Then I handed the images to my main man, Alex Guterres, and he then edited the images with the sound, etc... Hope you guys like it. Any questions you need answering I am here to help you out. Please do leave a comment with your opinion. It does wonders to my humble little ego, ahahaaha. Thank you all till the next one.

Deconstructing Roy Lichtenstein

Posted: 14 Jun 2010 07:27 PM PDT

Yesterday I ran into something that was a real shocker for me: a website called "Deconstructing Roy Lichtenstein" in which are featured "source" images to virtually all of Litchenstein's work. This is really big.

<!--break-->

I've known Lichtenstein work for some time know, but I've never researched his biography, and it seems that it was actually a "problem" he faced in life.

Most of his best-known artworks are relatively close, but not exact, copies of comic book panels, a subject he largely abandoned in 1965. (He would occasionally incorporate comics into his work in different ways in later decades.) These panels were originally drawn by such comics artists as Jack Kirby and DC Comics artists Russ Heath, Tony Abruzzo, Irv Novick, and Jerry Grandenetti, who rarely received any credit. Jack Cowart, executive director of the Lichtenstein Foundation, contests the notion that Lichtenstein was a copyist, saying: "Roy's work was a wonderment of the graphic formulae and the codification of sentiment that had been worked out by others. The panels were changed in scale, color, treatment, and in their implications. There is no exact copy." However, some have been critical of Lichtenstein's use of comic-book imagery, especially insofar as that use has been seen as endorsement a patronising view of comic by the art mainstream; noted comics author Art Spiegelman commented that "Lichtenstein did no more or less for comics than Andy Warhol did for soup." - Wikipedia

Some might even say that the world would not know him if copyright laws were serious back then. We'd like to know your thoughts on this... here are some of the source images from the Deconstructing Roy Lichtenstein website. There's also a Flickr photostream with many of these. Take a good look at them, and tell us what you think. Cheers!
